Scripture shows us that sound
doctrine is crucially important, as stated in Titus 2:1, we must
speak what is consistent with sound teaching. Jude also insisted that
believers defend sound doctrine:
Contend for the faith that was
once for all delivered to the saints. (Jude 1:3 see also Phil. 1:27)
To
contend means to persistently
fight for something and
to hold nothing back in the struggle. I would also say that sound
doctrine is important because everything we learn has an impact on
what we do, the decisions we make, and teach. For instance, many
teach about the concept of “Once Saved, Always Saved.” As a
result of this doctrine, people relax from their spiritual guard
where it concerns sin. For example, if I am taught that all my
“future” sins are automatically forgiven, then why should I be
concerned about the sin that I am tempted to do? If I am
automatically forgiven of any future sins, it makes it easier to give
into temptation. For that matter, if I am once saved and always
saved, why should I worry about final judgment if God has decided to
become morally blind
to any sins I may commit now or in the future?
How
can we be led by the spirit of truth while we sit under the spirit
of error? This is why
sound doctrine is important. It helps us to distinguish truth from
error, encourages the believers, and leads to life (1 Tim. 4:16). The
spirit of error leads a person to ruin.
The
trinity teaching is total falsehood and not sound doctrine. It is not
one of the teachings once
for all delivered to the saints.
It is not even the language of the holy writ. There is no such
teaching about one in three, three in one, one substance or essence,
three persons in one God, incarnation of God, 100% man and 100% God,
God-Man, Christ born with two natures, Mary giving birth to God,
Eternal Son of God, and God the Son.
The
trinity doctrine is embraced by a majority of denominations today who
have turned away from the worship of the “one true God” (John
17:3) and have embraced another
god, namely, “the trinity.” Does this not transgress what Jesus
said about God (Mark 12:29)?
When
Jesus prayed to his Father, he prayed that we would know Him (God the
Father) as the only true God AND Jesus whom He (God the Father)
sent, but sadly many are teaching the complete opposite.
Sound
doctrine is very important. In the world in which we live in today,
it appears unity
is encouraged at the expense of sound doctrine. In 2 Tim. 4:3-4 we
read:
For the time is coming when
people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they
will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own
passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and
wander off into myths.
Are
we willing to endure sound teaching and fight against the temptation
of having itching ears to suit our own passions that would turn us
away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths? Each of
us has to make that decision.
